Fellows Program at the German Economic Institute (IW)

The German Economic Institute (IW) is now accepting applications for Visiting Fellows working on the field of Transatlantic Economic Cooperation.

The German Economic Institute (IW) is now accepting applications for Visiting Fellows working on the field of Transatlantic Economic Cooperation. The program is intended to encourage senior research scholars, policy makers and practitioners to stay for 1-2 months at the IW to conduct research work and exchange ideas with its scholars and members in the second half of 2021 (under the presumption that the current COVID-19 situation allows international travel).

With its location in Cologne and offices in Brussels and Berlin, the IW provides access to German and European policy makers, practitioners and think tanks. IW Visiting Fellows would be an integral part of the IW community of more than 400 employees and about 120 researchers. They are offered the opportunity to present their research within the IW Brown Bag Seminar or the Macroeconomic Seminar. Furthermore, high quality research results can be published as IW policy paper or IW report.

The Visiting Fellows Program is open to all citizens of the US, Canada, UK and the EU. Applicants should have a PhD and be working on issues related to the Transatlantic economic relationship. For all activities related to their stay, Visiting Fellows are subject to IW’s internal rules. They are expected to conduct up-to-date independent research. The IW covers travel expenses (economy class) as well as accommodation and related cost of up to 1000 € per month. The IW provides office space and accompanying resources.

To apply for the IW Visiting Fellowship, please submit the following materials via e-mail to kolev@iwkoeln.de:

  • A brief cover letter (please indicate the intended period of stay at the IW)
  • A curriculum vitae with a list of publications
  • A project proposal (2-3 pages, 1.5 spaced) outlining the research idea, methodologi-cal issues and its relevance to the topic of the program
  • One letter of reference (for recent PhDs)

Visiting Fellows must consider COVID-19 related travel constraints and are responsible for their visa-application process (if needed). Furthermore, they must possess a health and casu-alty/accident insurance for the whole period of stay at the IW.
