Engineers play an important role in the innovative performance and the competitiveness of European countries. The aim of this report is therefore to provide a comprehensive overview of the most important indicators with respect to the European labour market for engineers and to their education. The report covers the 27 European Union member states, the EU applicants Croatia and Iceland as well as Norway and Switzerland. Generally, the indicators show a great heterogeneity between the countries. The extent to which engineers are appreciated appears to differ widely across Europe.

Fachkräftereport März 2026 – Weniger Engpässe in Sozialberufen, mehr bei Infrastruktur und Verteidigung
Die anhaltend schwache Konjunktur belastet zunehmend den Arbeitsmarkt. Im März 2026 gab es mehr arbeitslose qualifizierte Arbeitskräfte und weniger offene Stellen als im Vorjahresmonat. Die Arbeitslosenzahl überstieg mit rund 1,3 Millionen die Zahl offener Stellen von 1,1 Millionen dabei deutlich.
