The Competence Center for Securing a Skilled Workforce - KOFA for short - supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in structuring their HR work. The project is carried out on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) and is based at the German Economic Institute (IW). KOFA has been in existence since May 2011.

Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of the German economy and employ almost 60 percent of all employees. However, these companies in particular are finding it increasingly difficult to find and retain qualified employees. In the competition for skilled workers, a lack of time, personnel and financial resources can be reasons why companies do not successfully differentiate themselves from the competition when it comes to HR work.
KOFA therefore offers managing directors and HR managers of SMEs practical information and tips to support them in securing skilled workers and targeted HR work. The website www.kofa.de regularly publishes studies on the current skills situation on the labor market, specific recommendations for action, checklists and practical examples. The webinars offered by KOFA throughout the year provide interested parties with further practical insights. KOFA is also present on the social media profiles Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and publishes new weekly podcast episodes on Spotify under “KOFA on the sofa”.
