The need for reform within the WTO goes without saying. From criticism concerning its undemocratic decision making and de facto suspension of the dispute settlement procedure to its inability to deal with imbalances stemming from state subsidies or market access – there are many things that need fixing.

The new US administration with its pro-multilateralism offers some renewed hope as does the new leadership by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the first woman and African at the top of the organisation.

The European Liberal Forum and the German Economic Institute (IW) cordially invite you to their Online-Roundtable „WTO reform: New Leadership, new hope?“.

Europe must take the dare to take the next step: Delors Plan 2.0

In the coming years, the world order of exchange and multilateralism, which has so far been shaped by the West, will lose power, and global institutions will find it increasingly difficult to fulfil their mission of balancing interests and promoting ...

This time is different but still risky: Banking crisis instead of financial crisis

The current crisis of some American and European banks inevitably triggers fears that an international banking crisis could lead to a new financial crisis. But things in 2023 are very different from those in 2007.
