In 2009, the German Economic Institute (IW) moved from the outskirts to the centre of Cologne. The new location at Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer 21 is in the St Cunibert district in the immediate vicinity of the cathedral. Just under two thirds of the office space is taken up by the IW, the remaining area being occupied by a law firm.
