Democracy, Society & Business Ethics

The Democracy, Society and Business Ethics research cluster examines the societal conditions for economic success, as well as the normative and institutional prerequisites for a well-functioning democracy and market economy.

Content element with id 15650

At the heart of the cluster are preference patterns, trade-offs and hidden constraints that influence economic decisions, political bargaining processes and social cohesion.

To this end, the cluster combines behavioural, institutional and political-economic theories and analyses with empirical social research. Its areas of study include the effects of choice architecture and nudging, the importance of trust and social capital, questions of justice, fairness and well-being, as well as conflicts in business ethics between the market, the state and social responsibility.

The aim is to contribute to a better understanding of social tensions and to develop options for constructive reconciliation between business, the state and society.
