breakfirst debate: Strengthening Europe's Investor Base: How to Advance the Savings and Investment Union
German Economic Institute (IW)
The German Economic Institute (IW) and Deutsches Aktieninstitut cordially invite you to an expert breakfast discussion on the future of the European Savings and Investment Union (SIU), following the European Commission’s communication and the European Parliament’s draft initiative report.
Thriving European capital markets are key to successfully overcoming the economic, social, and geopolitical challenges that Europe currently faces. A resilient and deepened European capital market fosters long-term growth and competitiveness.
Strengthening the investor base is a crucial step towards mobilizing private capital for sustainable investments and innovation. The European Commission has outlined its long term vision for the Savings and Investment Union in the “Strategy to Foster Citizens Wealth and Economic Competitiveness in the EU” envisaging a number of measures over the next two year to promote the EU capital market, facilitating cross-border investments and improve market efficiency.
Therefore, we aim to explore the following key questions:
- What can the European Commission and Member States do to truly strengthen the investor base?
- How could the idea of Long-Term Savings Products or Accounts be implemented effectively?
- Should there be specific incentives to invest in European enterprises?
- And what other elements are necessary to make the Savings and Investment Union a success story?
