The case of Germany
The study undertaken on behalf of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions probes into industrial relations in the electricity sector. In the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, the German government issued a three-month moratorium on several nuclear power plants. In June 2011, it finally presented its decision to phase out nuclear energy in Germany completely. Nonetheless, industrial relations in the sector are characterised by established collective bargaining rounds for the top electricity producers. In addition, unions have undertaken efforts to organise employees in the renewable energy sectors and get them covered by collective agreements.
