Taxes on road traffic are not uniformly regulated in Europe. Differences include tax rates, taxable bases and car registration fees as well as gas tax rates. While the debate about taxing utility vehicles primarily focuses on road taxes, other taxes and duties on vehicles remain under the radar screen even though they too vary considerably in Europe. Regarding taxes on light utility vehicles Germany ranks tenth among the 23 countries surveyed.
